Camry engine misfire exhaust leak
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Toyota Camry was experiencing rough running and jerking, with a check engine light indicating a cylinder misfire. Initial checks ruled out the air filter as the cause. The issue was suspected to be related to fuel injectors, the crankshaft sensor, or the timing belt. However, a suggestion to inspect the exhaust system revealed a leak, which was confirmed by a workshop. Repairing the exhaust leak resolved the misfire and jerking issues.

That's an interesting thought. I haven't specifically checked for exhaust leaks, but I will now. Would an exhaust leak really cause those symptoms, even the jerking? Are there any common spots on a Camry exhaust system that tend to fail?

Yes, it is entirely possible. An exhaust leak can definitely cause those symptoms. On my Camry, the issue was with the exhaust manifold gasket. I would strongly recommend that you check with a qualified workshop.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion. I took it to the shop and you were spot on; they found a leak in the exhaust system. The bill came to 265€, which wasn't too bad. Runs like a top now!

I had a similar problem with my Camry. Do you notice any unusual exhaust smells or noises? A leak in the exhaust system can cause all sorts of weird engine behavior. Have you inspected the exhaust manifold or any of the pipes for cracks or rust?
