Camry Hybrid power steering issue

I've got a 2012 Toyota Camry Hybrid with 71354 km. The power steering is acting up. The steering wheel vibrates, handling feels spongy, and there's an error code stored. Steering takes way more effort, feels like the power assist is failing intermittently. I've visually checked the obvious stuff, but I suspect a dodgy cable or plug. Anyone seen this before?

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, although the symptoms were slightly different. My steering wheel was also shaking, but it was more noticeable at higher speeds. Did you check the hydraulic fluid level? That was the culprit for me back then.

Hydraulic fluid? Being a hybrid, the Camry uses electric power steering, so there's no hydraulic fluid reservoir to check. I wonder if the electric steering pump might be faulty. Did your Astra have electric or hydraulic steering? Any other ideas what it could be?

Ah, you're right about the hydraulic fluid - my mistake! The Astra had hydraulic steering. Given yours is electric and the symptoms are similar, but not identical, it does point to a potential issue with the electric steering components. If an error code is stored, it might be a good idea to visit a workshop.

That confirms my suspicions. Following your advice, I went to my workshop, where they pointed out a defective cable connection. They fixed it for 95€. Thanks for the helpful advice!
