Camry Overheating Slow Warmup
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Toyota Camry is experiencing overheating and slow warm-up issues, despite normal coolant levels and a functioning cooling fan. The problem is likely due to a faulty thermostat, as suggested by the stable temperature gauge once the engine warms up. It is recommended to have the thermostat checked and replaced by a professional, which was confirmed and resolved at a repair shop.

The temperature gauge is pretty stable once it warms up, just takes ages to get there. I haven't checked the thermostat housing specifically, but I didn't notice any obvious leaks around the engine. Is there a way to test the thermostat itself?

Yeah, those are classic thermostat symptoms. Given the age of the car, it's likely a defective map thermostat, especially if you're not seeing leaks. Honestly, testing it yourself can be a pain. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. They can diagnose it properly and replace the thermostat. Could be the cooling circuit motor that failed.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a shop, and they confirmed it was the thermostat. Repair cost me 350€. Appreciate the help!

Sounds like a thermostat issue. Is the temperature gauge fluctuating a lot, or is it pretty stable once it finally warms up? Have you checked the thermostat housing for any leaks?
