Caprice Incorrect Vehicle Coding
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Chevrolet Caprice is experiencing issues with fault codes and error messages on the infotainment system and speedometer, likely due to incorrect vehicle coding. The problem may stem from a software glitch or corrupted ECU coding. A suggested solution is to have a professional workshop reprogram the vehicle's modules, which successfully resolved similar issues in another case.

Thanks, I appreciate you sharing your experience with the Renault Megane. I'm using a professional-grade diagnostic scanner, so I'm pretty confident it's reading the codes correctly. But your mention of a software glitch is interesting. Can you tell me more about the coding issue you had and what it took to fix it? Was it just a reset or did they have to reprogram something?

It wasn't a simple reset. The workshop guys told me the software was corrupted. I even got the same error messages in the infotainment system and the speedometer. They had to completely re-flash the ECU with the correct software version. It was beyond my skills, so I just let them handle it. Cost me a bit, but it solved the problem. I'd say, take it to a reliable workshop and have them check the coding thoroughly.

Thanks for the insights. Your experience with the Renault Megane was helpful. I went to a trusted workshop, and they agreed it was incorrect vehicle coding. They reprogrammed the modules, and that fixed the fault code and other symptoms. The repair cost 360€.

That sounds frustrating! I had something similar happen with my old Renault Megane. Different brand, but the symptoms were eerily similar. I was getting random error messages on the dash and the infotainment screen would go haywire sometimes. My mechanic plugged in a diagnostic scanner and it pointed to some weird coding issue with the ECU. Apparently, a software had glitched out. What scan tool are you using? Maybe it's not reading the codes correctly or deep enough?
