Caprice knock sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Chevy Caprice is experiencing a check engine light, poor fuel consumption, and uneven idle, likely due to a faulty knock sensor. Possible causes include a loose or bad connection in the sensor's wiring. A suggested solution is to inspect and secure the sensor's wiring connections, though professional repair might be advisable if the issue persists.

Wiring... interesting. I haven't dug that deep yet. Where exactly should I be looking for these connections? And how bad was your fuel economy when this happened? Just trying to gauge if I'm on the right track here.

Okay, so on mine, the plug was loose on the sensor. The fuel economy tanked, and the idle was rough, like yours. Honestly, messing with engine sensors can be tricky, are you sure you can do it yourself? If you don't know what you are doing it is better to visit a workshop. My repair cost 95€

Thanks for the input! I think I'll take it to my auto repair. Sounds like it's probably a loose connection, and if that fixes it, great. If not, at least I know what to expect cost-wise.

Knock sensor, eh? I had something similar happen on my Caprice – not sure what year yours is but could be related. Did you check the wiring? 'Cause a bad connection can cause all sorts of havoc and trigger that warning light. Does it feel like the ignition timing is off?
