Caprice Power Steering Issue

I'm having trouble with the power steering on my 2016 Chevrolet Caprice with a gasoline engine. It's got about 65350 km on it. Lately, the steering wheel has been vibrating, and the handling feels spongy. I also got an error code related to the steering system. Now it takes a lot more effort to steer, almost like the power steering is failing altogether. I checked the obvious stuff, but couldn't find anything.

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Chevrolet Caprice owner experienced power steering issues, including a vibrating steering wheel, spongy handling, and increased steering effort, accompanied by an error code. The problem was identified as a defective cable or plug connection within the steering system. The suggested solution was to inspect the electrical connections, particularly around the steering column and electric steering components, or consult a professional workshop for accurate diagnosis and repair. The issue was resolved at a cost of 95€.

I had a similar experience with my Caprice. The vibrating steering wheel and increased steering effort are definitely concerning. Was an error stored in the error memory? In my case it turned out to be a defective cable or plug connection of the component. You might want to inspect the steering system's electrical connections thoroughly, particularly around the steering column and electric steering components.

Thanks for the quick reply! You mention electrical connections - did you notice any specific connectors or wiring harnesses that were problematic? I'll give it a shot tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I did not document the specific connector involved when I encountered the issue. However, considering the symptoms and error code, I'd recommend consulting with a qualified automotive workshop. They will be able to accurately diagnose the issue and perform the necessary repairs. In my case, the final bill came to 95€, which included resolving the defective cable or plug connection.

Appreciate the advice! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on – it was a defective plug connection. Got it sorted for 95€. Thanks again for the help!
