Caprice Radio Failure
Summary of the thread
The 2005 Chevrolet Caprice experienced radio issues, with an error message and constant static even when off, suggesting a potential antenna problem. The issue was suspected to be related to a bad antenna or a loose connection. It was advised to have a professional diagnose the problem to avoid further damage. The shop confirmed the issue was indeed a bad antenna, and after replacement, the radio functioned properly again.

Thanks. I haven't checked the antenna cable at the radio. Can you give me more specific instructions on how to get to that connection on a 2005 Caprice? Don't want to break anything.

Given your experience level, I wouldn't take apart the dash to get to the radio and antenna cable. You could damage other stuff. Since it's likely a bad antenna, and you have an error code, a tech with the right tools should diagnose it. That'll prevent more damage. I still think it's the antenna.

Understood. Thanks for the advice. The shop confirmed it was a bad antenna. Total cost was 255€. Radio works now.

A bad antenna is possible, given those symptoms. The error and no audio, plus static, points to signal problems. Did you check the antenna cable at the radio? A loose connection could cause that too.
