Captiva Alarm Siren Communication Fault

Hi, I'm having an issue with my 2017 Chevrolet Captiva diesel. The alarm system isn't working, and the error memory shows a siren communication fault. I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone experienced something similar? Estimated repair cost is around 95€.

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Chevrolet Captiva diesel is experiencing an alarm system malfunction, with an error indicating a siren communication fault. The issue is suspected to be due to a defective cable or plug connection. A similar problem was resolved by addressing a wiring issue, suggesting that the consistent error is more likely related to wiring rather than a faulty siren. It is recommended to have a workshop inspect the wiring harness near the siren to identify and fix the problem efficiently.

I have a Captiva, though not the same year, and had a similar problem once. Siren issues can be tricky. Have you checked the wiring harness near the siren itself? Sometimes, those connectors get corroded or loose, leading to a signal problem. Is the error consistently present, or does it come and go?

Thanks for the tip! I haven't checked the harness directly at the siren yet, but I did inspect the connections near the alarm module. The error is consistently present. Could the siren itself be faulty, or is it more likely a wiring issue, in your opinion?

While a faulty siren is possible, the consistent error and the error message pointing to communication suggest wiring more strongly. In my case, the shop found a partially severed wire. Given the repair cost you mentioned, I'd strongly advise taking it to a workshop. They'll pinpoint the exact location of the break faster than you or I could. But yes, it does sound familiar to my problem.

Okay, I appreciate the advice. I'll take it to the workshop and mention the possibility of a wiring issue in the siren harness. Thanks for confirming my suspicions and sharing your experience!
