Captur alarm issue

My 2016 Renault Captur diesel is throwing a weird error. The anti-theft alarm system seems totally dead. There's an error stored in the memory, but the alarm itself just doesn't function. I suspect it's something to do with the alarm being coded to activate the optical locking (indicators), but I'm not sure where to start looking. Anyone seen this before?

Sounds familiar! I had a similar gremlin with my old Peugeot 308. The security alarm was going haywire. Have you checked the alarm control unit for any obvious damage or loose connections?

Good shout! Where exactly is the alarm control unit located on the Captur? Is it easily accessible, or am I going to need to dismantle half the car?

On the 308 it was a right pain to get to, buried deep. I'd advise against ripping things apart yourself. Honestly, for something like this, especially with the immobilizer involved, it's worth biting the bullet and getting it hooked up to a proper diagnostic system at a workshop.

Cheers for the advice! Took it to the workshop, and you were spot on. Turns out the alarm system was coded to the optical locking (indicators) incorrectly. They recoded it, cleared the error, and now it's sorted. Cost me 45€, but worth it for the peace of mind!
