Thanks for the reply! Yes, there is an error stored. The workshop thinks the electric motor in the brake calliper is defective. Does that match your experience? What was the eventual repair?

Absolutely, that sounds very familiar indeed! If the workshop already suspects the electric motor in the brake calliper, then you're probably on the right track. In my case, that was exactly it. Unfortunately, it meant replacing the entire calliper unit, as the motor isn't usually sold separately. It's best to leave this repair to a professional workshop, as the electronic brake system is a safety-critical part of your car. They will have the tools to properly diagnose and rectify the brake fault, as well as the necessary expertise to safely disengage the parking brake system for replacement. I ended up paying around 500€ for the whole job, parts and labour included. Best of luck!

Thanks for the info. I appreciate the confirmation. The workshop quoted 505€. It seems about right. I'll get it fixed.

Hey there! I also have a Renault Captur, though I can't remember what year exactly, and I had a similar issue with my electronic parking brake a while back. You say there's an error message - did you check the error memory (basically the car's computer)? Often these 'system glitches' are down to the electric motor in the brake calliper being defective. How old is your car battery? A weak battery can sometimes cause weird electronic issues too.
