Captur exhaust temperature sensor issue

Has anyone experienced issues with the exhaust temperature sensor on a 2023 Renault Captur (Gasoline)? My Captur, with 74389 km on the clock, has started showing a check engine light. I've also noticed reduced engine power and a definite increase in fuel consumption. I suspect a faulty exhaust temperature sensor, possibly triggered by a leak in the exhaust system. Has anyone else encountered this?

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Renault Captur with 74,389 km exhibited a check engine light, reduced engine power, and increased fuel consumption, suspected to be due to a faulty exhaust temperature sensor potentially caused by an exhaust leak. The issue was confirmed by a workshop, which identified both a faulty sensor and a leak. The sensor was replaced, and the leak was sealed, resolving the problem and restoring the vehicle's performance.

That does sound suspiciously like an exhaust sensor issue. Those sensors are quite sensitive and even a small leak can throw them off. Think of it like trying to measure the temperature in your house with a window open – you won't get an accurate reading. Temperature fluctuation affects emission control and results in the engine management system pulling back performance to protect itself. Have you noticed any unusual noises from the exhaust?

Thanks for the quick reply. I haven't specifically noticed any loud exhaust noises. What kind of noises are we talking about? Also, how can I further confirm this, is there a way to check it myself?

Well, exhaust leaks can manifest in various ways. It might not be a loud roar but more of a hissing or puffing sound, especially when the engine is cold. The sensor is probably faulty, in your case. To accurately diagnose the sensor it needs proper diagnostic tools. Unfortunately, without the right equipment, it's difficult to pinpoint the exact source or confirm sensor failure yourself. Given the symptoms and your mileage, a workshop check seems like the best approach to avoid potential further damage.

Thanks for your advice. I took it to the workshop, and they confirmed the faulty exhaust temperature sensor. The leak was also confirmed. Repair cost was 265€. Replaced the sensor and sealed the leak. Running smoothly again.
