Captur Parking Aid Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Renault Captur hybrid is experiencing a complete failure of the parking aid system, with no beeps or guidance and an error indicating a parking aid fault. The fuses have been checked and are fine, leading to speculation about potential causes such as faulty ultrasonic sensors, rearview camera, radar sensors, or a dodgy cable or plug connection. A similar issue in another vehicle was resolved by replacing a corroded wiring harness connected to the main parking aid module, suggesting that professional diagnostic and repair might be the most efficient solution.

Interesting! So, with your BMW, was it a specific sensor that failed, or was it more of a general wiring issue? I'm trying to figure out if I should start by checking each of the parking sensors individually or if I should focus on the main control module and its connections. Did you manage to fix it yourself, or did you end up taking it to a shop?

I'm no mechanic! After messing around for a day and getting nowhere, I caved and took it to a workshop. They ran a proper diagnostic and found that the wiring harness had corroded where it connected to the main parking aid module. They replaced the harness, and everything was golden again. Given your symptoms and the fact that the error memory is storing the fault, I'd really suggest having a pro look at it. It could save you a ton of time and frustration, trust me!

I appreciate the insight. Sounds like I'm heading for a workshop visit. I was hoping to avoid it, but I think you're right – could be more hassle than it's worth to try and tackle this one myself. They checked all the cables and the plug connection and this was indeed the problem. It costs me 95€. Thanks again for sharing your experience!

That sucks! I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 series. My parking sensors went completely bonkers, displaying the same fault. I even checked the proximity sensors. I bet it is something like that. My guess is that you are right and it's a defective plug connection.
