Captur steering problem

Alright, need some help! My 2013 Renault Captur, diesel engine, is playing up. Done nearly 138000 clicks. The steering's gone all weird, like the power steering's packed it in, takes so much effort all of a sudden! Plus the steering wheel vibrates like mad now. I've had a quick check, but can't see anything obvious. Anyone experienced anything similar?

Sounds familiar! I had something similar with my Captur, although I couldn't tell you the year offhand. It felt like the steering was fighting back, especially at lower speeds. Any chance it could be the steering angle sensor?

Steering angle sensor, eh? Is that a big job? Whereabouts is that located? And how did you figure that was the culprit? Any chance it's just alignment gone wonky?

It's linked to the steering column, behind the steering wheel, I'm pretty sure. My mechanic reckoned the sensor coding had gone haywire, basically telling the system the wheel was at a different angle than it actually was. Mine turned out to be a faulty sensor. I'd get it checked out by a pro; wheel alignment issues don't usually feel quite like that.

Cheers! I appreciate the heads-up. I'll book it in with the local garage and see what they say about the steering angle sensor. Just got it back from the workshop, it really was the steering angle sensor. After replacing the sensor, all alignment problems are gone and the steering is working smoothly again, all in cost me 195€ Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!
