Cavalier Brake Light Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Chevy Cavalier experienced brake light failure and a dashboard error indicating a "Brake Light Circuit Malfunction." The issue was identified as a potentially faulty brake light switch, which can cause tail light failure. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the connector to the brake light switch had come loose, likely due to recent interaction with the pedals. Reconnecting the loose connector resolved the issue, restoring brake light functionality and clearing the error without any cost.

It says something like "Brake Light Circuit Malfunction" or something along those lines. The car has about 114179 km on it. I was messing with the pedals earlier... could I have accidentally knocked something loose? That's probably a stupid question, haha.

Okay, that mileage isn't crazy high, so it's probably not just wear and tear. And yes, fiddling with the pedals could definitely be the culprit. User error is a very common cause for these issues. You should get that fixed by a professional workshop.

Wow, you called it! I went to check under the dash, and the connector to the brake light switch was dangling loose. Plugged it back in, and everything's perfect! No more error, and the brake lights are working. Thanks a million! Cost me absolutely nothing!

Sounds like a faulty brake light switch, alright. That switch is part of the brake system, and often causes the tail lights to fail. Does the error message mention anything specific? Do you have any idea how many kilometers are on the car?
