Cavalier transmission control unit issue
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier is experiencing transmission issues, including non-functional paddle shifters, gearbox slippage, grinding noises, and emergency mode activation, accompanied by an error code. These symptoms suggest a potentially defective transmission control unit. A similar case was resolved by replacing the faulty transmission control module, and professional diagnosis and repair are recommended to prevent further complications.

Thanks! I checked the fluid level, and it seems ok. It happens regardless of whether the engine is cold or hot. What exactly was your issue? Was it also the control unit?

Yeah, it sounds a lot like what I experienced. Mine turned out to be a faulty transmission control module, which unfortunately meant a trip to the shop. I'd suggest getting it checked out professionally. It could save you a lot of headaches down the road. Expect to pay around 1000€ for that kind of fix.

Thanks for the insight! I'll take it to a workshop as soon as possible. I appreciate the help!

Hey, I had similar transmission problems with my Cavalier (not sure if it's exactly the same year). I'm no expert, but those symptoms sound familiar. Did you notice if it happens more when the engine is cold or hot? Also, have you checked the transmission fluid level? Could be a simple fix, but it might be something more serious.
