Cayman Wiper Sensor Gone Haywire? Expert Help Needed

Hey there, my 2010 Porsche Cayman (43940 KM) has been giving me trouble with the wipers lately. They're acting up out of nowhere and I suspect it might be the rain sensor. Had some questionable experiences with my usual mechanic, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar wiper issues on their Cayman? Looking for recommendations on both the potential cause and trusted mechanics who know their way around Porsches. Thanks in advance!

Had a similar issue with my 2013 Porsche Boxster last month. The bubbles under the gel pad were causing the rain sensor to malfunction, making the wipers go crazy at unusual times. Took it to my certified Porsche specialist, turned out the gel pad needed complete replacement along with recalibration of the rain sensor module. The fix wasn't just about replacing parts. The technician had to carefully remove the old gel pad, clean the surface thoroughly, and ensure proper adhesion of the new one to prevent future bubbling. It's actually a common issue with these models when the original gel pad starts aging. This wasn't a serious mechanical problem, but it needed proper attention to prevent any damage to the wiper system or windshield. Make sure you get it checked by a Porsche certified mechanic, the rain sensor calibration requires specific diagnostic tools. Those who work on these cars regularly will know exactly what to look for. The repair took about half a day at the shop.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Would you mind telling me how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? And have you had any other issues pop up since they fixed it? Really hoping this will be a one-and-done kind of deal. Thanks!

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up, after getting the repair done, everything's been working perfectly. The wipers are now responding exactly as they should, no more unusual activations or glitches. I paid €62.50 for the whole thing, which included replacing the gel pad where those annoying bubbles had formed under it. Since getting it fixed, the rain sensor has been working like a charm, honestly, it's nice not having to constantly fiddle with the wipers anymore! It's been about a month now, and I haven't had any other issues pop up. Definitely worth getting it sorted properly by a specialist who knows these Porsches inside and out. I reckon you'll have the same good experience once you get yours fixed. Just make sure you go to someone who really knows what they're doing with these cars, it makes all the difference!

Thanks for all the details! I actually just got back from getting it fixed yesterday. Funny enough, my experience was pretty similar to yours. Found a certified Porsche specialist through a 's recommendation, and they diagnosed it right away, same issue with the gel pad. The whole thing cost me a bit more, around €85, but they also did a quick inspection of the whole wiper system while they were at it. Took about 4 hours total, but what a difference! Drove home in the rain and the wipers worked perfectly, no more unusual swipes or weird behavior. Really glad I asked here first instead of going back to my old mechanic. These specialized repairs definitely need someone who knows what they're doing with Porsches. Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction! Now I can finally drive in the rain without getting annoyed by those crazy wipers!
