Celica electronic parking brake malfunction

Has anyone run into an electronic parking brake issue on a 2001 Toyota Celica with a gasoline engine? Mine's showing an error code and the warning light is on. Mileage is 144099 km. I'm thinking it might be the electric motor in the brake calliper.

Oh man, that sounds eerily familiar! I had almost the EXACT same problem with my Celica. Electronic parking brakes, what a pain, right? Tell me, does it feel like the handbrake lever is just...dead? Like trying to start a lawnmower with no gas? 'Cause that's what mine was doing. And the dash lit up like a Christmas tree! Did you check the simple stuff first, like the fuses? Just throwing it out there before you dive into the deep end.

Thanks! The handbrake lever isn't responding at all. I checked the fuses, and they seem fine. Can you tell me more about the issue you had and how you fixed it?

Right, fuses good... that's what I thought. Yeah, okay, so mine was the same – lever did absolutely nothing. Turns out, just like you're thinking, it WAS the electric motor in the brake caliper. The whole thing basically shorted out. I tried messing with it myself, but honestly, these things are more trouble than they're worth. Ended up taking it to a workshop. Saved myself a massive headache, even if it stung the wallet a bit. Honestly, get it looked at professionally; messing with brakes is like playing Operation with a live grenade.

I appreciate you confirming my suspicion and sharing your experience. Given the potential complexities and safety implications, I agree with your recommendation to get professional help. I'll schedule a workshop appointment for diagnostics and repair.
