Celica Engine Stall at Idle

Hey, I've got a 2000 Toyota Celica with a gasoline engine and a weird issue. The check engine light keeps popping on, and the engine occasionally stalls when idling. It seems to happen more when the fuel tank is low. I suspect a fuel tank ventilation system leak, maybe a defective activated charcoal filter? Mileage is at 186062 km.

Sounds like an EVAP system issue. Have you checked the purge valve? A faulty purge valve can definitely cause stalling and trigger the check engine light. Could impact fuel efficiency too.

Thanks for the quick reply! Where exactly is the purge valve located? And is there any way to test it without specialized tools?

It's usually near the engine, often on the intake manifold. Testing it properly often requires a scan tool to read the EVAP system data. If the check engine light is on, you may need to go to a workshop.

Took it to a trusted workshop, and you were right. Turns out the activated charcoal filter was indeed defective, causing the EVAP system to leak. Total repair cost was 275€. Runs like a charm now. Thanks for the help!
