Celica Engine Stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2005 Toyota Celica is experiencing engine stalling and a persistent check engine light. The suspected cause is a faulty tank ventilation valve, possibly due to clogged hoses. Another owner with a similar issue suggested checking the purge valve and pressure sensor. The problem was confirmed by a mechanic to be clogged hoses in the tank ventilation system, leading to a repair.

Thanks for the quick response! How difficult was it to diagnose the purge valve issue? Did you notice any other symptoms besides the check engine light and stalling?

It wasn't easy to diagnose myself, honestly. I ended up taking it to a workshop. They ran some tests on the emission system and figured it out pretty quickly. I did notice a slight decrease in fuel economy. If you're not comfortable tackling it yourself, I'd recommend getting it checked out professionally.

Okay, thanks for the advice! I took it to my local mechanic, and they confirmed it was the tank ventilation valve. Turns out the hoses were indeed clogged, just as I suspected. The repair cost me 175€.

I've got a Celica too, and I had a similar problem a while back. Check engine light and stalling at idle sounds familiar. Mine turned out to be a faulty purge valve. The pressure sensor was also acting up, causing the engine to not regulate pressure correctly. Worth checking those components!
