Celica exhaust flap issue

My 2002 Toyota Celica with a gasoline engine has 45812 km. The exhaust flaps aren't working right, and the error memory shows a message. The exhaust is louder than usual, and the engine is noisy after a cold start. I think the exhaust flap is defective.

Summary of the thread

A 2002 Toyota Celica owner reported issues with the exhaust flaps, resulting in a louder exhaust and noisy engine after a cold start. The problem was suspected to be a defective exhaust flap. Another individual with similar symptoms suggested checking the flap actuator and potential exhaust blockage. The issue was confirmed by a workshop, and the defective exhaust flap was repaired, resolving the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I had similar symptoms on my Celica. Loud exhaust, especially when cold. Suspect your flap actuator. Check for exhaust blockage too.

Thanks. How did you figure out it was the flap actuator? Did you have any other issues, and how did you fix it?

Yeah, sounds like the same problem I had. Honestly, I took it straight to a workshop. They confirmed it was a flap issue, so you might want to do the same.

Thanks for the advice. I had the car inspected at a workshop, and they confirmed a defective exhaust flap. The repair was 190€, including parts and labor. It's fixed now.
