Celica Power Steering Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Toyota Celica is experiencing power steering issues, with symptoms including a vibrating steering wheel and spongy handling. The problem is suspected to be due to a bad cable or plug, as indicated by error codes showing a power steering fault. A suggestion to check the connections to the steering pump was made, and upon inspection by a workshop, a faulty connector was identified and repaired, resolving the issue.

Molasses is a good way to describe it, yeah. Where exactly should I be looking for these connections? I'm decent with a wrench, but not sure where the steering pump is located.

The steering pump is usually driven by the accessory belt. It is like when the chain falls off of your bicycle. You can fix it yourself, but it may be hard to get your hands dirty. I would advise you to let the workshop have a look at the cable or plug connection of the component. It's probably a simple fix, but best to be sure.

Thanks for the advice. Took it to a shop, and you were right – it was a faulty connector. 95€ and it's back to normal.

I had a similar issue with my Celica. Does it feel like you're trying to steer through molasses? Check the connections to the steering pump. Sometimes a loose connection can cause all sorts of weirdness. Have you checked the wheel alignment? A bad alignment can make the problem even more obvious.
