Celica strange brake pedal feedback
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Toyota Celica owner experienced strange vibrating or pulsating feedback from the brake pedal. Initial thoughts were mechanical issues like warped rotors or failing calipers, but another suggestion pointed to potential undervoltage affecting the ABS or electronic braking components. A professional diagnosis confirmed an undervoltage issue, leading to premature brake wear, which was resolved with new brake pads and shoes.

Undervoltage? That's interesting. I hadn't considered that. I thought it would be something mechanical like warped brake rotors or failing brake calipers. How would undervoltage affect the brake system? Is there a way to test for that?

Undervoltage can indeed manifest in odd ways within a vehicle's electrical system, potentially affecting the ABS or other electronically-controlled braking components. Given the symptoms you've described and my previous experience, a professional diagnosis is advisable, especially considering you are unfamiliar with your car's braking system. Take it to your workshop of choice and they can accurately assess the vehicle's electrical system. That is what I did back then.

Okay, thanks for the input. I think I will get it checked out at a shop. I appreciate the suggestion about the undervoltage; I wouldn't have thought of that. Just got the car back from the workshop: it looks like it was indeed an undervoltage issue that caused the brakes to wear out prematurely. Total cost was about 240€ including new brake pads, brake shoes and labor. Thanks!

Strange brake pedal feedback can be caused by a number of things. I also own a Celica, and I had a similar issue a while back. Since you're getting feedback through the pedal, have you looked into the voltage in your car? Maybe you have undervoltage issues?
