Charger Cruise Control & Error Codes: Bad Throttle Body

My Charger keeps showing errors and the cruise control stopped working. The speedometer throws an error message and I found multiple error codes stored in the system. Could this be a faulty system in the throttle body or actuator causing the non-functional cruise control? Looking for advice before heading to a mechanic since my last repair experience wasnt great. Car specs: 2005 Dodge Charger, gas engine, 72392 km. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms and can share their repair experience?

Summary of the thread

A 2005 Dodge Charger experienced cruise control failure and error messages on the speedometer, with multiple error codes stored in the system. The issue was suspected to be related to the throttle body or actuator. A similar case with a Dodge Challenger revealed that corroded wiring connections at the throttle body were the cause, affecting both cruise control and speedometer readings. The solution involved replacing the throttle body harness connector and cleaning the actuator contacts, which resolved the issue. Proper diagnostics were crucial to identifying the electrical connectivity problem, avoiding unnecessary throttle body replacement.

Had the same issue on a 2008 Dodge Challenger. The diagnostics revealed multiple error codes related to the throttle body position sensor and actuator assembly. The steering wheel cruise control buttons worked fine, but the system would not engage. A thorough inspection showed the throttle body wiring harness had deteriorated connection pins, causing intermittent signals. The faulty connection affected both the cruise control and speedometer readings. The non-functional components were traced to corroded pins in the main connector. The repair required replacing the throttle body harness connector and cleaning the actuator contacts. This was not a major mechanical issue, but precise diagnostic work was needed to identify the exact fault points. After the repair, all systems returned to normal operation including cruise control and accurate speedometer readings. These symptoms typically point to electrical connectivity problems rather than mechanical throttle body failure. Getting proper diagnostics is essential since similar symptoms can come from different root causes.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the Challenger. The symptoms sound exactly like what I am experiencing with my Charger. The malfunction seems very similar, especially with the throttle body and cruise control issues. Did you remember roughly how much the repair cost? Also, has everything worked properly since the fix, or have you noticed any other related issues popping up? My mechanic quoted a pretty high price so I am trying to get a sense if I am being overcharged.

Since my repair on the Challenger, all systems have worked flawlessly. The cruise control malfunction was completely resolved after fixing the faulty wiring connection, which cost 95€ for parts and labor. The repair shop found the issue quickly by checking the throttle body connections in the fuse box area. No additional problems have surfaced in the months following the repair. The speedometer readings remain accurate and the cruise control engages smoothly every time. The initial symptoms can seem daunting, but the fix was straightforward once the exact connection issue was identified. Based on my experience, if your quote is significantly higher, you might want to get a second opinion. The repair itself was not particularly complex, it was mainly diagnostic work and replacing a connection component.

Thanks for the advice. I took my Charger to a certified mechanic who specializes in electrical diagnostics. The faulty system turned out to be exactly what was described, corroded wiring connections at the throttle body. Total repair cost came to 120€, which included a full diagnostic scan and connector replacement. The mechanic also cleaned all the surrounding connections in the fuse box area while having everything opened up. The steering wheel controls and cruise control are working perfectly now. The speedometer is reading correctly and all error codes have cleared from the system. The repair took about 2 hours total and I am happy I did not replace the entire throttle body as initially suggested by another shop. Getting that second opinion definitely saved me money. The non-functional components were fixed at a reasonable price once the actual issue was properly diagnosed. Thanks again for helping me understand what to look for.
