Check engine light and loss of power in Peugeot 308: Possible defect in the knock sensor

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 2010 Peugeot 308 gasoline engine. It already has 144400 KM on the clock, but otherwise runs quite well. But lately the check engine light has been coming on, plus lack of engine power, jerky acceleration, too much fuel consumption and strange engine noises. My guess is a defective knock sensor. Have any of you had similar problems? I would like to hear your experiences with such problems and your workshop visits before I take it back to the workshop. It wasn't a good experience last time... Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Peugeot 308 is experiencing issues such as the check engine light, loss of power, jerky acceleration, high fuel consumption, and strange engine noises. The suspected cause is a defective knock sensor. A similar issue in another Peugeot model was resolved by replacing a faulty cable/plug connected to the sensor, which was an affordable fix. It is recommended to have a mechanic inspect the vehicle to determine the exact cause and solution.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hey, I can understand your concerns. I had a similar problem with my 2013 Peugeot 508 some time ago. In my case it was a faulty cable/plug and the car drove very erratically, similar to what you describe. Jerking, high consumption, the same alarm signs and then the annoying check engine light. I also suspected something serious, but in the end it was just the cable from the sensor input that had to be replaced. So you can say it wasn't as bad as it looked. I recommend you get a mechanic to take a look at it. Hopefully it's not worse for you either. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Interesting to hear that it was just a cable problem for you. How much did the repair cost you, if you can remember? And has your Peugeot had any other similar problems since then? It would be good to know if I should prepare for more surprises too. Haha. Thanks again!

Yo, no problem! The repair of the cable/plug cost me around 95 euros, so it was really affordable. And since then everything has been as good as new, no further incidents. The fault with the knock sensor has also been fixed since I had it checked by the mechanic. So, in my opinion, just have a professional look at it and don't worry too much. Hope this helps you!

Hey, great! Your story definitely calms me down a bit. 95 euros sounds really affordable and even with no further problems afterwards. I think that's great! I'll probably pay another visit to the workshop and entrust the professionals with the matter. In any case, thanks for the tips and experience reports, they really helped me! All the best to you.
