Check engine light on after battery replacement

Hi everyone, I have a 2009 BMW 5 Series with a gasoline engine and 143,000 km on the odometer. After 5 months of inactivity, the battery died, so I replaced it. Since then, the 'Check engine soon' light is on. I've driven about 400 kilometers since the inactivity. A reset doesn't help and a diagnostic scan doesn't provide any clarity. What could the problem be? Thanks in advance for your help!

Summary of the thread

After replacing the battery in a 2009 BMW 5 Series, the 'Check engine soon' light turned on, and a reset and diagnostic scan did not clarify the issue. A possible cause could be a loose or damaged gas cap, which can trigger the check engine light. Ensuring the gas cap is properly tightened and inspecting it for damage may resolve the problem.

Check if the gas cap is properly tightened, as a loose cap can trigger the check engine light. If the cap is secure, inspect it for any damage or wear. Let me know if this resolves the issue or if you need further assistance.
