Check engine light on Toyota Auris 2012: constant malfunctions and inexplicable switch-off

Hi guys, I've been having problems with my 2012 Toyota Auris (gasoline engine, 164414 KM run so far) for some time now. The check engine light keeps coming on, the engine sometimes even switches itself off and sometimes it just won't start. Errors are also stored in the system. I suspect it could be a problem with the coding, but I'm not sure. Has anyone had similar experiences or can give me any advice? After my last mechanic visit I don't really have the confidence to go straight back to the garage. I appreciate any help, thank you!

Hi buddy, I recently had similar issues with my 2015 Toyota Corolla. The check engine light was flashing and the engine would occasionally just stall. In my case, the engine control unit was faulty, just as you suspect. This is a serious issue, it controls many aspects of your engine and if it's not working properly it can cause frequent and unpredictable faults. It took me a while to diagnose as the fault was intermittent and therefore difficult to identify. Fortunately, the mechanics at the garage where I had it fixed were very experienced and eventually found the problem. Nevertheless, it is not an easy problem and should not be taken lightly. I would recommend you visit a garage as soon as possible so they can have a look at it. Hey, no problem! I totally understand your stress. So the good news is that since my mechanic fixed the coding error, I haven't had any further problems with the car. It's running perfectly now! The not so good news is that the damage to the engine control unit was quite expensive to fix. I had to dig deep into my pocket and it was about 1000 euros. But considering how important the part is for the engine, it was definitely worth it. In the end, it's better to pay now and have peace of mind than to have even more damage later and have to pay even more. Don't worry, hopefully all is well with you and it doesn't cost that much!
