Chevrolet Express Jerking Acceleration

I'm having trouble with my 2018 Chevrolet Express diesel (186918 km). It's jerking when I accelerate, the check engine light keeps popping on, and it feels like it has reduced engine power. It even stalled while idling! It runs super rough and smells strongly of exhaust. I scanned it and there's an error stored, but I have no idea what it means. Could a bad manifold sensor cause all these issues? Anyone experienced anything similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Chevrolet Express diesel is experiencing jerking during acceleration, a persistent check engine light, reduced engine power, stalling while idling, rough running, and a strong exhaust smell. These issues could be caused by a defective intake manifold, potentially due to scorching, which allows unmetered air into the engine and disrupts the fuel-air mixture. The suggested solution is to have the intake manifold checked and possibly replaced by a professional, which resolved the problem in a similar case.

Wow, those symptoms sound way too familiar! I have an Express as well (though not the same year). I had almost the exact same issues last year – jerking, check engine light, rough running, the works. Did you happen to notice if the exhaust smell was stronger than usual? It could be a problem with the air intake, and it could be related to a gasket leak.

Yes, the exhaust smell is really strong! So, if it's the air intake, what exactly was the problem with yours? And how did you figure it out? Was it hard to diagnose?

Turns out my intake manifold was leaking due to scorching! The mechanic said it's not uncommon. It was letting unmetered air into the engine, messing with the fuel-air mixture, which caused all the problems you described. With your symptoms, especially the strong exhaust smell and error code, I’d say get it checked out by a professional. I ended up paying around 1180€ to get it fixed. It's worth it to get your engine running smoothly again.

Thanks so much for the info! Scorched intake manifold… sounds like a real possibility given everything you've said. I'll book it into the workshop ASAP. Turns out it was a defective intake manifold, and had it replaced for 1180€ like you said. Now it runs smoothly again!
