Random is a good descriptor. The shift knob seems solid. By the way, what do you mean by 'kaput'?

Kaput is just a slang term for 'broken' or 'not working'. In my case, it turned out to be a defective control unit. Considering your symptoms, it might be the same issue. Honestly, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the control unit and get you sorted.

Thanks for the insight. Workshop confirmed it's the control unit. Quoted 1000€ for the repair. Appreciate the help!

MOVE

Whoa, sounds rough! I had something similar happen in my Move. The gear selection display went kaput, and the transmission was acting all sorts of wonky. By 'implausible shifting', you mean it's like, choosing gears totally at random? Did you check the shift knob itself? Sometimes those things can get loose or damaged.
