Chevrolet Move VANOS Issue

Hi, I have a 2020 Chevrolet Move, gasoline engine, with 144669 km. The check engine light is on and fuel consumption is higher than normal. I suspect a faulty inlet VANOS. Is this a common issue? I think the defect could be in one of the camshaft solenoid valves or the power supply to it.

Hey, sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms on my old Volvo C30. The VANOS (Variable Valve Timing) system is used to optimize engine performance and efficiency, so issues can cause those problems. For me it was a bad camshaft position sensor. Have you checked that?

Thanks, that's useful. I have not checked the sensor itself directly, but the error codes point to the VANOS actuator. Could a faulty sensor cause the system to throw VANOS-specific codes?

Yeah, a bad sensor can definitely mess with the VANOS readings and cause those codes to appear. Given the mileage, it could also be worth checking the timing chain for wear. Best bet is probably a good workshop with the right diagnostic tools though.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop. Turned out the inlet camshaft solenoid valve was indeed defective. Repair cost 250€. Replacing it fixed the issue.
