Chevrolet Sail power loss ECU error
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Chevrolet Sail experienced significant power loss and acceleration issues, with a diagnostic indicating a potential engine control unit (ECU) defect. However, a suggestion to check the main relay revealed it as the actual cause of the problem. Replacing the faulty main relay resolved the issue, restoring the car's performance and avoiding the need for costly ECU repairs.

Thanks! No, the mechanic didn't mention the main relay. He just said the ECU seemed to be the problem and talked about potential ECU repair costs. Could a faulty main relay really cause the ECU to throw error codes and lead to reduced engine performance?

Absolutely, it can! A faulty main relay can definitely mess with the ECU's functionality, leading to all sorts of strange readings and performance issues. My advice? Take it to a workshop. They can pinpoint whether its the relay or ECU.

Thanks so much! I took your suggestion and went to a proper workshop. Turns out, you were spot on – it was indeed the main relay causing the whole issue! They replaced it, cleared the error codes, and now my Sail is running like new. The repair cost me around 120€, which is way better than a new ECU! I really appreciate your help!

I had a similar problem with my Sail a few years back. Reduced engine power and a weird error code sound familiar. Did the mechanic mention anything about the main relay? That was the culprit in my case. Worth checking out!
