Chevrolet Spin diesel engine stalls after fuel filter change

Hi, I have a 2022 Chevrolet Spin with a diesel engine. The check engine light is on, and the engine sometimes stalls when idling. Also, feels like the engine power is reduced. I recently changed the fuel filter, and I'm guessing that's when the error appeared. The car has about 97969 km on it. Could it be a defective fuel pressure regulator?

Summary of the thread

A 2022 Chevrolet Spin with a diesel engine experienced stalling, reduced power, and a check engine light after a fuel filter change. The issue was suspected to be related to the fuel pressure regulator, possibly due to air entering the system or a faulty pressure sensor during the filter replacement. It was advised to consult a technician to prevent further damage. The problem was confirmed to be the fuel pressure regulator, which was replaced, resolving the issue.

Indeed, the symptoms you describe – check engine light, stalling at idle, and reduced engine power – align with a potential issue in the fuel pressure regulation system. Since the problem arose immediately after changing the fuel filter, there is a good chance that air got into the system or that the pressure sensor is faulty. If the fuel pressure regulator fails, it can't maintain the correct fuel pressure in the fuel rail, leading to rough idle, engine misfires, and decreased fuel efficiency.

Thanks for the info. Is it possible that I damaged the pressure sensor when changing the fuel filter? Is there a way to check it, or is it better to just replace the fuel pressure regulator directly?

While it is not possible to be 100% certain without a diagnostic scan and physical inspection, given the temporal proximity to the fuel filter replacement, it is highly probable the fuel pressure regulator became defective. It is not possible to assess with the available data the likelihood of a damaged sensor. Considering your intermediate technical expertise, I recommend consulting a qualified technician for diagnosis and repair. Ignoring this could lead to damage to the fuel pump.

Thanks, I appreciate your advice. I took it to the workshop and they confirmed it was the fuel pressure regulator. The error entry was the root cause, like you mentioned. They replaced it, cost me about 45€, and now it runs fine.
