CHR Engine Control Unit Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Toyota CHR with a gasoline engine experienced reduced engine power and error codes, suggesting a potential engine control unit (ECU) failure. A possible cause identified was a defective main relay, which can disrupt voltage to the ECU, leading to similar symptoms. Replacing the main relay resolved the issue, restoring normal engine function.

Could you elaborate on how a defective main relay affects the engine control unit? Were your symptoms similar?

Well, with my Astra it kinda cut power intermittently and threw a bunch of weird codes. I'm no expert, but the main relay failing seems to screw with the voltage to the ECU. Best bet is probably a workshop, they can check it properly.

Thanks for the help. I went to a technician, and they confirmed it was a defective main relay. Replacing it for 120€ fixed the problem. Thanks again!

Sounds familiar! Had similar stuff happen with my old Opel Astra, though it was the diesel version. Did you check the main relay? Apparently, a defective relay can mess with the ECU big time.
