CHR poor starting and stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2022 Toyota CHR hybrid with 172,704 km is experiencing poor starting and stalling issues, accompanied by a check engine light. The suspected cause is a defective camshaft sensor, potentially due to a faulty encoder wheel on the camshafts. Replacing the camshaft sensor resolved the problem, restoring smooth operation.

Thanks for the reply. How did you figure out it was the camshaft sensor? Did you have to replace the whole camshaft or just the sensor?

I just replaced the sensor itself. The symptoms pointed towards that, and a diagnostic confirmed it. I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop to be sure, but it sounds like a similar issue. The repair cost me around 695€, sensor plus labour.

Thanks a lot for the info! I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – it was the camshaft sensor. Replaced it, and the car is running smoothly again. Really appreciate the help!

Hey, I had similar issues with my CHR. Hard starts, stalling, and that dreaded check engine light. Has it been affecting your ignition timing at all? It could be the camshaft position sensor failing, messing with the engine control.
