CHR transmission control unit defective

My 2016 Toyota CHR with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. Mileage is at 89324 km. I'm pretty sure the transmission control unit is defective. Paddle shifters are useless, gearbox is slipping like crazy, especially under load. The shifting is really unclean, and I'm getting these awful grinding noises sometimes. Paddle shifters are slow to respond, and now the gearbox is in emergency mode with an error stored in the memory. Has anyone dealt with similar transmission issues? I suspect the TC is the culprit, but I'm open to suggestions before I start tearing things apart.

Whoa, that sounds rough! I own a CHR as well and I had similar symptoms a while back. My gearbox also felt like it was shifting uncleanly, especially on inclines. The error memory was full of transmission errors. I’m no mechanic but it was really obvious that the gearbox was not shifting like it should. Did you try resetting the error codes?

Yeah, I cleared the codes, but they keep coming back almost immediately after driving a short distance. It's definitely a recurring issue. When you had a similar problem, what exactly was it and how did you resolve it? Was it the transmission control unit as well?

Okay, since the error comes back that quickly, I'd strongly suggest you take it to a workshop. For my CHR they said the same thing, that the affected control unit was defective. It’s probably best to get a professional diagnosis to confirm, but with those symptoms, it's highly likely. It cost me around 1000€ to get it fixed.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to my local mechanic, and you were spot on. It was indeed the transmission control unit. They replaced it, and now everything is shifting smoothly again. Cost me about 1000€ too. Appreciate the help!
