CHR Undervoltage Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Toyota CHR is experiencing an undervoltage issue, leading to poor starting, system failures, weak lights, and a weak battery upon startup. The problem is suspected to be a heavily discharged or defective battery. A similar issue was resolved by checking the alternator output, as a faulty alternator can cause battery drainage. It is recommended to have a professional diagnosis of the charging system to determine the exact cause and avoid unnecessary replacements.

Thank you for your reply. I have not checked the alternator output specifically. Could you elaborate on how you determined that the alternator was the problem in your case? What specific tests did you perform, or did you rely on a mechanic's diagnosis?

Sure thing! Initially, I relied on a mechanic's diagnosis. They used a multimeter to check the battery voltage with the engine running. It was significantly lower than the expected 13.5-14.5 volts. They then did a load test on the alternator, and it failed. Honestly, given your symptoms, I'd suggest getting it checked out professionally too. Could save you a lot of hassle!

I appreciate your advice. I will take the vehicle to a workshop for a professional diagnosis of the charging system. A defective battery was indeed the issue. Repair cost 290€

Hey! I also drive a CHR. Your symptoms sound awfully familiar. I had a similar issue last year. Did you check the alternator output? A faulty alternator can cause the battery to drain even when the car is running. Worth investigating before replacing the battery.
