Chrysler 200 Stalling: Fuel System Failure Warning Signs

My Chrysler 200 (2016, gas engine, 163k km) keeps stalling and wont start properly. The engine runs rough and drinks more fuel than usual. Check engine light is on. I suspect fuel pump failure but got burned by my last mechanic visit. Has anyone dealt with similar fuel system issues on this model? What was the actual problem and repair cost? Looking for recommendations before heading back to a shop.

Had a similar issue on my 2013 Chrysler 300 with the gasoline engine. The symptoms matched exactly, rough running, excessive fuel consumption, and stalling. After auto repair diagnostics, it turned out the fuel pump was fine, but the fuel pressure sensor had a damaged wiring harness and loose connector. The car mechanics traced the issue to where the wiring bundle passes near the fuel tank. The connector had corroded and was causing intermittent signal issues, confusing the engine management system. This explained the poor car performance and starting problems. The repair involved replacing the wiring harness section and installing a new sensor connector with better weatherproofing. While not as severe as a complete fuel pump failure, fixing it was crucial since faulty signals to the ECU can cause long-term engine damage. Key warning signs that pointed to electrical rather than mechanical fuel system problems: Engine would sometimes run normally after clearing codes, Fuel pressure readings were inconsistent rather than constantly low, Problems got worse in wet weather Worth having a professional check the wiring and connections before replacing the entire fuel pump assembly. The check engine light codes should help narrow down if its a sensor/wiring issue versus actual fuel delivery problems.

Thanks for sharing your experience with the sensor wiring issue! My symptoms were really similar to yours, and it helped me avoid unnecessarily replacing the fuel pump. The fuel injector and sensor diagnostics revealed similar electrical problems in my case. Can you recall roughly how much the repair cost in the end? Also curious if youve had any fuel system problems since getting it fixed? My Chrysler 200 is going into the shop next week and Id like to give them this info as a starting point.

Glad I could help identify the issue! After fixing the faulty wiring connection to the fuel pressure sensor last month, my Chrysler has been running perfectly. The car performance returned to normal immediately after the repair, and the check engine light hasnt come back since. The total auto repair cost was 95€, which mainly covered diagnosing and fixing the cable connection. Much better than replacing the entire fuel pump, which would have been significantly more expensive. The car mechanics found the root cause quickly once they knew where to look. No fuel system problems since then, fuel consumption is back to normal and the engine runs smoothly. For your upcoming repair, make sure they thoroughly check the wiring connections and sensor plugs around the fuel tank area. Sometimes simple electrical issues can mimic more serious fuel pump failure symptoms. The diagnostic codes should help them pinpoint the exact location of any compromised connections. Would be interested to hear what they find with your Chrysler 200, sounds like it could be a similar fix.

After getting that helpful advice, I took my Chrysler 200 to a reputable mechanic who specializes in fuel system diagnostics. Just like suggested, they found corroded wiring near the fuel tank connector that was causing the engine stalling and rough running issues. The repair came to 120€ total, slightly more than expected but still way cheaper than a new fuel pump. The mechanic showed me the damaged wiring and explained how it was affecting the gasoline delivery signals. Car has been running great for the past week, no more stalling, normal fuel consumption, and the check engine light is finally off. The car performance is back to what it should be. Really glad I checked here first before authorizing any major parts replacement. Next step is getting the fuel injectors cleaned as preventive maintenance, but the critical wiring issue is resolved. Thanks again for helping me avoid an unnecessary expensive repair!
