Cima engine stalls at idle
Summary of the thread
A 2001 Nissan Cima with a gasoline engine was experiencing stalling at idle and a check engine light issue. The initial suspicion was a problem with the tank ventilation valve or clogged hoses. After taking the car to a workshop, it was confirmed that the hoses were clogged, and replacing them resolved the problem.

The gas cap seems fine. No hissing sounds. If the hoses are indeed clogged, is it possible to clean them, or is replacement the only option?

Cleaning might work, but it's hard to say for sure how effective it would be without actually seeing the hoses. If the clogs are really stubborn, you might end up damaging the hoses in the process. Given the car's age, the rubber could be brittle. Honestly, it might be worth having a workshop take a look. They can run proper diagnostics and tell you for sure what's going on.

Thank you for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and as suggested, the tank ventilation valve hoses were indeed clogged. Replacement and diagnostics cost 175€. The problem is now resolved.

Hello. It certainly sounds like it could be related to the tank ventilation. Have you checked your gas cap to make sure it's sealing properly? A faulty gas cap can sometimes trigger the check engine light and cause idle problems. Also, do you hear any unusual hissing sounds coming from the fuel tank area? That might indicate a leak in the ventilation system.
