Cima Transfer Case Defective Gears

Whoa, gear wear issues are bad news! I had a similar thing happen on my Cima – not sure about the year, but this sounds familiar. Have you checked for any oil leakage around the transfer case? Also, what does your transfer fluid look like? Is it burnt or does it have metal shavings?

Thanks for the reply. I haven't noticed any obvious oil leakage, but I'll double-check. As for the transfer fluid, I haven't drained it yet to get a good look. How urgent do you reckon this is? I'm trying to gauge whether it's a 'drop everything' situation or if I can hold off a bit. How did the metal shavings looked like for you?

If you're experiencing slippage, I'd say it's fairly urgent. Metal shavings are a REALLY bad sign. They looked like glitter honestly, if they are there, the gears are grinding themselves down. The damage is already underway. Get it checked soon, might save you bigger expenses down the line. Honestly, I'd take it to a trusted workshop.

Appreciate the advice. Seems like getting it checked sooner rather than later is the way to go. Ended up taking it to the shop. Turns out it was exactly what we suspected (defective gears in the transfer case). Cost me 330€ for the repair. Thanks again!
