Citan diesel camshaft sensor issue

My 2016 Mercedes Citan diesel is acting up It has 131499 km on it Sometimes it struggles to start feels like it has lost power and the computer shows a camshaft sensor error I suspect a bad connection Has anyone seen this before I was quoted around 95€ for a fix

Summary of the thread

A 2016 Mercedes Citan diesel with 131,499 km is experiencing starting issues and power loss, with a computer error indicating a camshaft sensor problem. The suspected cause is a bad connection, possibly due to environmental factors affecting the sensor or its wiring. The solution involved inspecting the sensor and its connections for damage or corrosion, ultimately leading to the replacement of a faulty connector, which resolved the issue.

I understand you are experiencing issues with your Mercedes Citan I had a similar experience with my previous Vauxhall Astra The symptoms were slightly different I experienced significant rough idling and occasional engine misfire but it also turned out to be a crankshaft sensor failure Have you inspected the sensor itself for any physical damage or corrosion Automotive sensors can sometimes fail due to environmental factors

Crankshaft sensor eh Interesting I was leaning towards the camshaft sensor since that's what the error code pointed to When you say inspected what exactly should I be looking for

Apologies I meant to say camshaft sensor I misremembered the exact component in my Vauxhall Yes examine the sensor for cracks loose wiring or signs of moisture intrusion Also check the connector for bent pins or corrosion If you're not comfortable doing this it might be best to consult with a qualified workshop to avoid causing further damage

I appreciate the insight I wiggled the wiring but no luck I took it to the shop It ended up being exactly what I suspected the camshaft sensor connection was bad A new connector fixed it Thanks
