Citan diesel engine issue resolved

My 2018 Mercedes Citan diesel is showing a check engine light and stalled at a light. The garage said the error memory shows incorrect fuel composition and suspects a defective cable or plug connection. Could this be related to fuel quality, or does the fuel filter need changing? I am worried about fuel economy. Could wrong fuel cause this? Should I use fuel additives?

I have a similar Citan and had a similar issue. Check the fuel filter first. It might be clogged, especially if you have been using low quality fuel. Also, inspect the fuel lines for any damage.

Yes, the error message was related to fuel. Replacing the fuel filter helped for a while, but I had to get a mechanic to properly diagnose a faulty connection. I suggest you visit a workshop to get it checked properly.

I took it to the shop as you suggested. It was indeed a defective plug connection, like the initial garage said. The repair cost 95€, and now the engine runs smoothly again!
