Citan diesel engine overheating problem solved

My 2014 Mercedes Citan diesel is running HOT The engine's overheating like crazy. I suspect it's the electric fan – it barely spins. Mileage is at 213872 km. Could be a dodgy cable or plug connection to the fan itself? It's gotta be affecting engine cooling, right? I'm dreading a huge bill.

Sounds familiar. I have a Citan too, and had a similar issue with the radiator fan. Check the electric motor connection to the fan clutch. A faulty connection there can definitely cause the electric fan to not operate properly and lead to overheating. Is the electric fan not working at all, or is it just weak?

Thanks for the quick reply! When you say 'fan clutch', do you mean where the electric motor plugs into the fan assembly? And yeah, it's spinning weakly, not like it used to. Barely moves any air across the radiator fan, which is why I'm so worried about the engine cooling.

Exactly, where the motor connects to the fan assembly. If it's weak and not completely dead, it's likely a connection issue or a failing electric motor, rather than the entire fan clutch mechanism itself. Honestly, diagnosing electrical gremlins can be a pain. Might be worth getting it checked at a workshop. Could save you a lot of frustration.

You were spot on! Took it to a workshop, and it turned out to be a corroded connector on the electric fan motor. New connector and labor cost me 95€. Engine's running cool as a cucumber now. Thanks a million for pointing me in the right direction!
