Citan Diesel Engine Running Cooler Than Usual

My 2019 Mercedes Citan diesel engine seems to be running cooler than usual. The instrument cluster occasionally displays what seem to be incorrect temperature readings, and the check engine light is on. Also, the engine is taking a noticeably extended period to reach its normal operating temperature. Could this be related to a restricted cooling grille or a potential radiator blockage? Could a defective fuse be the cause?

That sounds frustrating. I had something similar happen with my Citan. Incorrect temps and the check engine light are definitely concerning. A restricted radiator grille airflow is a good starting point, but that usually leads to engine overheating, which you are not experiencing. Is it possible the radiator is blocked, or the cooling system isn't cycling coolant correctly? I'd also consider a faulty thermostat. Has there been any recent work done on the van?

I haven't had any recent work done on the van, and the engine isn't overheating. It's more that it's taking a long time to warm up. You mentioned a faulty thermostat; is that something I could potentially diagnose myself, or would it require specialized tools and knowledge?

Okay, so no engine overheating is an important distinction. A faulty thermostat could be the problem, but honestly, without getting in there and testing things, it's hard to say for certain. Given the check engine light and the unusual temperature readings, I'd probably lean towards getting it checked by someone who knows these vans. Trying to poke around without the right gear could lead to more issues. Better safe than sorry, right?

I appreciate the advice; I think I will take it to a professional. It turned out to be a defective fuse that was impacting the cooling system; the total repair cost was 52€.
