Citan engine issues and injector replacement

My 2023 Mercedes Citan, gasoline engine, is acting up at 122973 km. I'm pretty sure the injection nozzle is defective. Getting poor starts, fuel consumption is way up, engine power is noticeably down, and it idles rough, sometimes stalls. Suspect it's just clogging. Anyone else run into this?

Summary of the thread

A 2023 Mercedes Citan with a gasoline engine was experiencing poor starts, increased fuel consumption, reduced engine power, rough idling, and occasional stalling at 122,973 km. The suspected cause was a defective or clogged injection nozzle. Diagnostic scans indicated misfires and lean conditions, with fuel trims out of balance, though injector resistance appeared normal. After considering potential causes, replacing the injector resolved the issues, restoring smooth engine operation and normal fuel consumption. Regular monitoring of the fuel system was advised to prevent future problems.

Have you scanned the vehicle for diagnostic trouble codes? I encountered similar performance degradation with a Citan, although I must emphasize the importance of proper diagnostic procedures. Fuel trim values and injector circuit resistance should be evaluated prior to component replacement. Clogging can be a factor, particularly if maintenance schedules have not been adhered to meticulously.

Codes were scanned, pointing to misfires and lean conditions. Fuel trims are definitely out of whack. Resistance checks on the injectors seemed normal, though. You think I'm missing something before I go for a replacement?

Given the data you present, proceeding with injector replacement is a reasonable course of action. However, I strongly advise a thorough inspection of the fuel supply system, including but not limited to the fuel filter, fuel pump, and fuel pressure regulator, to preclude recurrence of the issue. Consider engaging a qualified workshop to perform a comprehensive assessment. It is imperative to ensure proper functionality following replacement.

Thanks for the confirmation. Bit the bullet and had the injector replaced. Cost me 515€. Seems to have sorted it. Engine runs smooth as butter now and fuel consumption is back to normal. Lesson learned: Clogging can wreak havoc. Will keep an eye on the fuel system from now on.
