Okay, Lambda sensor makes sense Is there any way to test the Lambda sensor myself without special tools I'm trying to avoid the shop if possible, but I don't want to mess anything up Also, where are the Lambda sensors located on this thing Are they easy to get to, or are they buried

Testing a Lambda sensor usually requires a multimeter and knowing what readings to expect, so it can get tricky Given the symptoms and the age of the vehicle, a defective Lambda sensor is the most likely cause You could visually inspect them for damage but without diagnostic tools you're guessing Honestly, with exhaust leaks and rough running, I'd take it to a workshop They'll pinpoint the exact problem quickly Don't keep driving it like that, it could damage the catalytic converter

Okay, you're right I took it to the shop It WAS a Lambda sensor, just like you suspected Total cost was around 375€ including labor Engine light is off, exhaust smell is gone, and it's running smooth again Thanks for the advice, I appreciate the help

Rough running, engine light, and exhaust smell sounds bad It's probably not DEF fluid on a gasoline engine Have you scanned the OBD port for error codes That would be the first step The error code will tell you which Lambda sensor is defective I would check the wiring to the Lambda sensors as well Sometimes rodents chew on the wires
