Citan engine stalling and check engine light
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Mercedes Citan with 197,177 km is experiencing engine stalling and a check engine light. The initial suspicion is a faulty camshaft sensor or a defective encoder wheel on the camshafts. Another possibility mentioned is the crankshaft sensor. After taking the vehicle to a workshop, it is confirmed that the issue is indeed with the camshaft sensor and a defective encoder wheel, leading to a repair.

Sensor testing? What kind of sensor testing are we talking about? And which sensor specifically? I mean, could it really be the encoder wheel on the camshaft? Did you have the same issues with starting and stalling?

Yes, I had the same starting and stalling. I would get it to a workshop and have them diagnose it. In my case, it was the camshaft sensor. I know it’s a pain.

You were spot on! Took it to the workshop, and they confirmed it was the camshaft sensor. Apparently, the encoder wheel was indeed defective. Repair cost me 695€. Thanks for the advice; at least I knew what to expect!

I had a similar issue with my Citan. Check engine light came on and the car was stalling. It might be worth doing some sensor testing before you go any further.
