Citan Oil Level Sensor Problems
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Mercedes Citan is experiencing an oil level sensor issue, indicated by an error message, warning light, and sometimes an oil pressure lamp. Diagnostics suggest a defect in the cable or plug. Possible causes include an electrical fault, such as a dirty connection or faulty sensor. Suggested solutions include checking and cleaning the wiring harness and connector with electrical contact cleaner, and if unresolved, consulting a workshop for potential sensor replacement.

Thanks for the suggestions. Could you give more specific guidance on where the wiring harness and connector are in the engine compartment? What type of electrical contact cleaner do you advise, and what precautions should I take? Did cleaning the contacts fix your issue, or did you need a new oil level sensor?

I'm no mechanic, but the oil level sensor should be at the bottom of the engine, near the oil pan. The wiring harness will be connected to it. Any brand of contact cleaner from an auto parts store should be fine. Just disconnect the battery first for safety To be honest, cleaning the contacts didn't completely fix it for me. The light still came on sometimes, so I ended up taking it to a workshop. They diagnosed a faulty sensor and replaced it. I know it's not the answer you wanted, but maybe you should consider taking it to a workshop as well.

Thanks for your assistance and for sharing your experience. Your insights have been most enlightening. Based on your recommendation, I will schedule an appointment with a qualified workshop to inspect the oil level sensor and wiring. Thanks again for your support.

That sounds frustrating I have a Mercedes Citan too, and I vaguely remember something similar happening a while back with the oil level sensor. The warning light kept popping up, and I was worried about low oil pressure. It wasn't actually a problem with the oil level itself, but some kind of electrical fault. Did you check the wiring harness and the connector to the oil level sensor? Maybe try cleaning the contacts with some electrical contact cleaner? It might just be a dirty connection. I'm not an expert, but it's worth a shot before you start replacing parts. Also, did you check the oil level manually with the dipstick, just to be completely sure it's okay?
