Citan Power Window Issue After Battery Replacement

My 2021 Mercedes Citan with a gasoline engine has a strange issue. The power windows suddenly stopped working after I replaced the vehicle battery. I've checked the fuses, and they seem fine. The error memory stores an error related to unsuccessful window regulator initialization. Any thoughts before I start disassembling the door panel?

It sounds like the battery replacement is the cause. The window regulators on modern Mercedes require re-initialization after power loss. The procedure usually involves holding the window switch in the up and down positions. Check your owner's manual, it might describe the exact window reset procedure. If not, search online for "Mercedes window regulator reset". Be precise, a procedure for another model might not work. If you've already tried that, or the procedure doesn't work, there could be an issue with one or more of the window regulators or the central control module. Have you noticed any unusual noises coming from the door when you try to operate the windows? Also, what error code is stored in the error memory?

I tried the window reset procedure I found online – holding the switch up for a few seconds, then down, repeating a few times. It didn't work. There are no unusual noises from the doors. As for the error code, I'll have to check again, but it was something along the lines of "window regulator motor initialization failed". Any other ideas before I remove the door panel?

That error code confirms the initialization issue. Since the reset procedure didn't work and there are no strange noises, it's unlikely to be a mechanical failure in the window regulator itself. It's possible the procedure you found isn't the correct one for your specific Citan model. If you cannot find the proper procedure specific to your car, my advice would be to take it to a workshop with Mercedes diagnostic equipment. They can perform the window reset using the diagnostic tool. It might also be a faulty window switch, but diagnosing it requires specific tools and experience. I would advise against disassembling the door panel without proper knowledge. You risk damaging something or not being able to put it back together correctly. It could end up costing you more in the long run.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local shop with Mercedes diagnostic tools. They were able to perform the window regulator initialization, and everything is working again. The final repair cost was 290€, so not too bad. Appreciate the help!
