Citroen C1 Electrical Issues

Experiencing electrical issues with my 2012 Citroen C1, gasoline engine, with 190552 km on the clock. It's been starting poorly, and I've noticed several systems failing intermittently. The lights are weak and flicker sometimes, and the battery seems weak when starting the engine. I suspect the battery. Is it likely to be battery health?

Summary of the thread

The conversation revolves around electrical issues in a 2012 Citroen C1, characterized by poor starting, weak and flickering lights, and a seemingly weak battery. The initial suspicion was a battery problem, but it was suggested that a faulty alternator could also be the cause, as it might prevent the battery from charging properly. After taking the car to a workshop, it was confirmed that the battery was defective and heavily discharged, and replacing it resolved the issues.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my C1, though mine is a slightly older model. The symptoms you describe sound very familiar. I was getting undervoltage warnings and weird electrical glitches. Have you checked the alternator output? A faulty alternator can prevent the battery from charging properly, leading to these kinds of problems. Also have you measured your battery voltage, when the car is not running?

Thanks for the quick response! I hadn't considered the alternator. I don't have the equipment to check the alternator output myself. Regarding the battery voltage when the car is off, no, I have not checked it. Could a failing alternator really cause all these seemingly random system failures?

Yes, a failing alternator can cause a cascade of issues because the car's electrical system isn't getting the power it needs. It could also be a heavily discharged or defective battery, as you originally suspected. Given the age and mileage, it might be time for a new battery anyway. If you can't check the alternator yourself, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop for a diagnosis. They can properly test both the battery and the alternator.

Thank you for the advice! I took it to a workshop. It turned out to be a defective battery, which was heavily discharged. After replacing the battery, for a total of 290€, everything seems to be working fine now!
