Citroen C1: Engine light, reduced power and rough running - Possible leak in the tank ventilation system

Stalling while idling

Shaking while idling

Check engine light on

Loss of engine power

Unsteady engine

Jerking on acceleration

Hey guys, I need your advice. My C1 from Citroen (petrol engine, year of manufacture 2022, 41,142 KM down) is really acting up. The engine light is on, it has less power, the engine runs unevenly, it jerks when accelerating, the engine dies when idling and it shudders when stationary. Something's wrong with the car again, last time I had really bad luck with the garage. I suspect a leak in the tank ventilation system. Have any of you had similar experiences and can give me a tip on how much the repair might cost at the mechanic? It would be great if you could share your experiences with me, I really don't want to be ripped off again. Thank you!

Hey, I can really understand you. I had similar problems with my Citroen C4 from 2019. The cause was actually a defective activated charcoal filter. The filter itself is not the problem, but finding the leak was the bigger challenge. My mechanic said that defective activated charcoal filters can severely disrupt the engine's running behavior and it's important to fix it to protect the engine. So I'd say it's a serious issue that you shouldn't ignore. Hope I could help you!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply and the information! That's right, I didn't have an activated carbon filter like that on my radar before, but it sounds really plausible. Did you have any problems afterwards or was that the end of it for you? And can you remember how much you paid your mechanic for the repair? I'm just trying to estimate the costs so that I'm a little more prepared. Thanks again for your help!

Hey, no problem! So after my mechanic repaired the leak in the tank ventilation system, my Citroen really ran like clockwork again. I haven't had any more problems since then. As for the price: I had to fork out a total of €275 to repair the defective activated carbon filter. That wasn't necessarily a bargain, of course, but it was definitely worth it. So if you find this problematic, save up! Hopefully I've been able to help you!

Hey, that's just the info I needed! Thank you very much! I can now plan better with the price. And of course, if it runs smoothly again, it's definitely worth it. I will tackle this as soon as possible. Thanks again for your help!
