Citroen C2 Stalling After Fuel Filter Change

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2007 Citroen C2, gasoline engine, 202970 km on the clock. The check engine light keeps popping on, and sometimes the engine just stalls when I'm idling. Plus, it feels like I'm not getting the power I used to. I recently changed the fuel filter, and I'm wondering if that might have something to do with it? Could there be an error entry? Any ideas what could be causing this? Fuel pump maybe? Or something with the fuel rail? It almost feels like a pressure drop somewhere. I'm not super mechanically inclined, so any help would be appreciated!

Sounds familiar. I had similar problems with my C2. Those symptoms – check engine light, stalling, power loss – could point to a fuel pressure regulator issue. Did the problems start right after you changed the fuel filter?

Yeah, it started almost immediately after I swapped the fuel filter. What exactly does the fuel pressure regulator do, and how would changing the filter cause it to go bad? Is it something simple I can check myself, or am I better off taking it to a shop?

The fuel pressure regulator maintains consistent pressure in the fuel rail – that’s the thing that supplies fuel to the injectors, which spray it into the engine. If it's faulty, you get misfires or rough running due to incorrect fuel mixture, or stalling. I'd suggest getting it checked. Could be a pressure sensor too, but I'm betting on the regulator. I'd take it to a workshop.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to a local workshop, and you were spot on – it was the fuel pressure regulator. They replaced it, and the car is running perfectly again. Cost me about 45€ all in. I guess the filter change messed it up somehow. Appreciate the help!
